King's Heath raised Laura Mvula widely tipped to be music's next big star

Widely tipped to be one of music's next big stars, Laura Mvula was raised in King's Heath. Her new single "Green Garden" taken from her recently released debut album "Sing To The Moon" is an elegy to the garden at her former home in King's Heath.

She explained to the Birmingham Post "When we moved to our new house (in King's Heath), for us kids it was a huge huge deal to have trees in the back garden. Where we had lived in Selly Park , the back garden was more concrete than grass, so it felt like we were in a forest. Some of my happiest memories are of endless summer holidays where it seems like we spent most of the time in the garden, making up dance routines or having mammoth waterfights. The song is a celebration of that".

She recently sang the song on her first live TV performance on BBC's The Graham Norton Show.

She played the Hare & Hounds last year on 27 November which only goes to show that King's Heath is the place to see the next generation of music stars as well as celebrate those who have aleady made it!
