Kitchen Garden Café - York Road

On many evenings, the café transforms itself from being a tranquil oasis in the heart of Kings Heath’s busy shopping centre into a packed live entertainment venue.

It hosts a whole range of regular and one-off live music, comedy and poetry events including

  • Laughing Cows (all female) and Laffacino Comedy nights,
  • Retort Cabaret Show (an eclectic mix of music, comedy, poetry and alternative cabaret),
  • Storytelling Café bringing storytelling back to adult audiences and
  • Poetry Bites.

Comedians who have appeared here in recent years include Janice Connolly who described it in the Guardian as one of her favourite comedy venues, Shazia Mirza and Jasper Carrott.

Musicians have included Martin Carthy, Chris Wood, Steeleye Span’s Peter Knight and a whole array of young up and coming folk, country and acoustic acts.
